313,019. Bergell, C. Feb. 2, 1928. Soaps, processes for making.-Oils and fats are completely saponified by first boiling with lye in such proportions that the mixture contains 56 per cent of fatty acid and 1-2 per cent of salts and excess lye, and then adding water to reduce the fatty acid content to 50 per cent, boiling for a short time, and standing until action is complete. In an example, 300 lb. of bone fat, 300 lb. of tallow, 400 lb. of palm kernel oil, 20 lb. of common salt, and 500 lb. of soda lye of about 36‹ Be. are boiled for 1-2 hours. The mass is then diluted with and stiffened by 30 lb. of water, boiled, and allowed to stand for about 1 hour.
