Abstract
312,405. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farben. industrie Akt.-Ges.). June 8, 1928. Soaps, processes and materials for making.- Tn the manufacture of soap by treating with caustic alkali the products of the oxidation of paraffin hydrocarbons, the unsaponifiable portions are separated from the soap solution by cooling to 15‹ C. or lower, maybe in steps. For example. a product obtained by blowing oxidizing gases through paraffin wax and containing about 20 per cent unsaponifiable constituents, is saponified with a 10 per cent excess of concentrated caustic soda, and a.llowed to stand at about 60-90‹ C. The main portion of the unsaponifiable matter collects as an oil on the surface, and is drawn off. The solution is then cooled to 5‹ C. and filtered or centrifuged to separate the remainder of the unsaponifiable matter. The freed soap solution is neutralized by pea nut fatty acids, concentrated, and dried.
