Abstract

311,854. Weaver, G. E. March 1, 1928. Fluid-pressure presses.- An air pressure piston-and-cylinder device for removing tyres from wheel rims comprises a piston connected to expandably rim-engaging jaws 15 and a cylinder 1 mounted on a stand 2 carrying tyre-engaging fingers 26. The cylinder carries a valve 46 rotated by a handle 48 and controlling pressure ports 50, 49 leading to the front and rear of the cylinder and an exhaust port 51 leading to the atmosphere. When pressure is admitted to the front end of the cylinder, the rim is drawn away from the tyre, a buffer 40 preventing shock at the moment of release. To return the piston, pressure is admitted to the rear end of the cylinder and a bevel 42 on the piston engages a bevel 43 on the cylinder cover to ensure a bevel 43 on the cylinder cover to ensure an upright position for the jaw 15 ready for supporting a fresh wheel.
