Abstract

310,964. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. May 5, 1928, [Convention date]. Dichlorethylene.-Acetylene dichloride of low boiling point is prepared from chlorine and excess of acetylene by using active carbon as contact agent at temperatures below 100‹ C. Equal volumes of acetylene and chlorine may be continuously mixed with a current of gas containing excess of acetylene, and circulated through a vessel containing active carbon. The temperature of the carbon layer, which is stated to be an optimum at about 40‹ C., may be regulated by the amounts of fresh chlorine and acetylene added from time to time, and by varying the speed of circulation. The product is stated to consist largely of pure trans-dichlorethylene. Specification 16620/12 is referred to.
