Abstract

Diaphragms. - A conical diaphragm a for sound reproducers is formed concentrically with oppositely directed corrugations b, c close to its margin, the corrugations being spaced apart by an annulus d. The cone is also formed with a flat annular margin e, bound with felt and having its outer half secured to a ring &c. (not shown). The diaphragm may be formed from a sheet of cotton gauze, buckram, &c. painted on one side with a plastic paper preparation known under the registered Trade Mark " Hycolite " and pressed between heated dies so as to stretch the material and mould it to the required shape. In order to increase the flexibility of the cone at the corrugated portion thereof, it may be treated from the outer edge of the outer corrugation to the inner edge of the inner corrugation with glycerine. Such treatment is apt to flatten out the material of the cone as shown in Fig. 3. According to the Provisional Specification, the cone may be formed with an embossed pattern within the corrugations.
