Abstract
403,685. Diaphragms. HAWLEY, J. B., 200, East Batavia Road, Geneva, Illinois, U.S.A. April 22, 1932, No. 11651. [Class 40 (iv).] A seamless acoustic diaphragm is formed from fibrous material by submerging a porous contoured former in a water bath of suspended fibres, such as pulp fibres, the fibres being caused to acerete, interlace and integrate on the surface of the former by forcing the water through the pores or apertures in the former. After such deposition, the former is raised from the bath and the wet blank on it removed, dried and suitably treated. The Figures show suitable forms of diaphragm, those shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 8 being of uniform thickness or tapered in thickness from the apex to the periphery or vice versa. The diaphragm may also be flat and the outline instead of being circular may be polygonal, oval or elliptical. Different areas of the diaphragm may also be made of varying density. The surrounding annular flange portion is made flexible to afford freedom of movement of the cone or the juncture of the cone portion and the rim portion may be made thinner than the cone portion or in the form of a groove. Specification 293,912, [Class 87 (ii), Moulding plastic &c. substances], is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 399,165.
