Springs, arrangement of.-A suspension system for road vehicles comprises endless rubber or like elastic members arranged in such a manner as to provide four longitudinal tension elements from one member. The elastic members may be employed instead of the usual metallic springs, or between the metallic springs and either the axles or the superstructure, or between the metallic springs themselves. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 3, as applied to the front axle of a motor vehicle, a bracket with a forward projection 2 is bolted to the axle. An endless rubber member 1 is turned over the projection 2 and also over a lower anchorage 9 carried by brackets 10 rigid with the cross frame member 11. A plate 46 prevents displacement of the rubber member. The axle may be held against twisting and other movements relatively to the frame by radius rods 18, 15. A similar construction may be applied to the rear axle, the brackets 10 being then carried by the axle. Rubber or other resilient material may also be interposed between the projection 2 and either the anchorage 9, or a member extending above the projection and connected to the side frame 12, or both the anchorage 9 and the member. Fig. 6 shows a rubber member 1 connecting the end of a laminated spring 39 to the vehicle frame 37 in a similar manner to that previously described. The rubber member and associated parts may be enclosed in a casing which may also serve to limit the movement in the event of the rubber member breaking.
