Shades. - A lampshade comprises two compartments of different shapes, a light compartment containing the source of light, and a diffusing compartment forming an extension of the light compartment and so shaped that the light is concentrated to cover the entire surface of a musician's music, or other surface to be illuminated, but does not extend beyond the edges of the music. In one form, a metal or other casing is formed into a rectangular light compartment c carrying on one side an electric lamp holder c and closed at the top by a removable slide or cover d. The compartment e may be ventilated by means of holes formed in its front wall f and covered by a sheet-metal cover plate o. The front wall f of the light compartment is extended vertically downwards to form the front wall i of the diffusing compartment, the rear wall f<1> and the side walls of the light compartment are flared outwardly to form respectively the rear wall and the side walls h, h<1> of the diffusing compartment. A coloured or other glass screen k may be fitted across the mouth of the diffusing compartment, and the effective area of the light aperture may be varied bv means of a mask of cardboard or other material.
