Abstract

308,724. Ceskoslovenska Zbrojovka Akciova Spolecnost v. Brne. March 27, 1928, [Convention date]. Machine guns.-Relates to gas-operated guns in which the breech-block is tilted by the gas piston to unlock it before retracting it to open the breech, and consists mainly in the interposition of a spring buffer to smooth the tilting operation. As shown, the member 20, which operates the breechblock 6, is slidably mounted in the head 5 of the gas-piston rod and is normally held back against a stop 5<1> by a spring 21. When a shot is fired, the piston head 5 and the member 20 are moved rearwards, and the inclined surface 25 on the member 20 engages an inclined surface 26 on the breech-block, but the shock of this engagement is cushioned by the spring 21. The rear end of the breech-block is thus deflected downwards to remove a lug 16 of the breech-block from its locking engagement in a recess 18 in the breech casing 2, after which the parts recoil against a spring 7 and the spent cartridge is extracted from the barrel by an extractor 14. When the parts are returned forwards by the spring 7, an inclined surface 36<11> on the piston-rod head 5 comes against an inclined surface 35 at the end of the breechblock, which is thereby again tilted up to the locking position where it is held by the curved surface 36<1> on the piston-rod head 5. After this, the member 20 strikes the firing pin 10 in the breech-block, and the next shot is fired.
