Latches, sliding; sliding bolts; window holders for sliding sashes.-In means for holding window sashes, comprising a spring latch or bolt on one sash 6 engaging a rack 9 on the other sash 8, the bolt-casing 3 is saddle shape to provide depending lugs 5 secured one on each side of the inner sash 6. The bolt is pressed by a spring 7 and is operated by a pivoted tongue 14 acting as a hasp with an eye 16 for securing the bolt by a padlock in the case of a latch, Fig. II, engaging a single set of teeth 11, a pivoted finger 21 engages a notch 22, 23 in the latch to hold the latch in or out of engagement with the rack. In the case of a sliding bolt, Fig. III, a pivoted cam 17 engages the casing to hold the bolt out of engagement with the double teeth 11.
