Abstract
308,432. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., and Griffiths, L. Feb. 21, 1928. Magneto-electric machines.-In a magneto of the rotating magnet type, the armature coil 6, Fig. 1, is arranged with its axis parallel to the axis of the rotor and the core has poles 5 at opposite ends extending to opposite sides of the rotor; the rotor Fig. 2, comprises a magnet 1 rotatable on its longitudinal axis and has attached polar extensions 3, 4, of L-section projecting parallel with the magnet for approximately its full length. The magnet 1 is tubular and is carried on a non- magnetic shaft 2, or alternatively a solid bar magnet may be employed. The magnets shown in Figs. 1 and 2 gives two flux reversals per revolution; in the case of a magnet giving four flux reversals, each pole piece 3 is provided with extensions 4 on each side of the magnet.
