Abstract
308,288. Dicker, S. G. S., (Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken) Dec. 16, 1927. Vacuum tubes.-To prevent interruption of the discharge in incandescent-cathode gas-filled arcdischarge rectifying or other tubes, when the tube is approached or by similar causes, a point of the direct-current circuit is connected to one or more conducting screens arranged in the vicinity of the tube or through a high impedance to a point that is approximately at earth potential. Fig. 1 shows a tube having a cathode 2 and two anodes 3, 4, and an external screen 14 connected through a high impedance or resistance 15, such as a lead-pencil line, to a point of the directcurrent circuit. In the device shown in Fig. 2, the screen is formed by tin-foil or like coating 25 on the wall of the tube. The screen may surround not only the tube, but auxiliary devices such as' a transformer and resistance with it.
