Abstract
308,155. Jackson, L. Mellersh-, (Watkins, W. E.). Oct. 4, 1928. Cold-rolling. - Mills for cold rolling a pack of strips have guides for aligning the strips formed to engage the edges of the strips and provided with separate plates to facilitate tha independent guiding of each strip. The guide channel 46 is formed to engage the rolls closely and is fitted with side plates 51 to provide adjustment for the width of strip. The strips are separated by plates 50. The plates 50 and 51 are prevented from passing through the guide by enlarged ends 53, 52 and the degree of pressure is adjusted by means such as a wedge 54. A second series of plates similar to the plates 50 may be fitted at 39, Fig. 1. to provide tensioning means, and a third series 7, in a trough 5 with adjustable sides, weighted at 9 to clean the strips and remove surplus oil. The two high mill is driven from an electric motor through a chain driving a hand lever controlled friction-clutch. The rolled strips are separately reeled on drums 58 driven from a further motor.
