Abstract

308,101. Milner, C. C. April 23, 1928. Vibration - dampers. - Friction-disc apparatus for vehicles is provided with means for regulating the pressure between the elements consisting of an annular cylinder and piston arranged concentrically with the usual screw - adjusting means and supplied with liquid under pressure. The frictional apparatus consists of a central disc connected to one movable element and outer discs c connected to the other, frictional material being interposed between them, while pressure is applied by means of the spring washer b and the central bolt a. The usual tightening nut is replaced by a special nut d having a cylindrical outer surface on which is mounted a small annular cylinder e containing an annular piston f bearing against the spring washer b. Pressure liquid is supplied to the cylinder by a hand pump operated by the driver or by a mechanically-operated pump actuated by the engine. 'The nut d may be locked by a central screw h. Several dampers may be supplied with liquid from the same pump. A furnace gauge may be fitted.
