Abstract

Wire strainers.-In a bale-wiring machine the free end of the wire is secured by a gripper which comprises a pivoted portion B and a stationary part C, the pivoted portion being depressed and held by a cam lever E against a spring F. A spring detent may hold the gripper closed.- The gripper may co-act with a predeformed wire or may itself deform the wire during gripping. The gripper is carried on a lever arm Y pivoted to a vertical pin S and engaged by a horizontal rod T which abuts against a tappet lever Z projecting into the path of a cam on the shaft of the ratchet-operated tensioning drum R so that the lever arm Y is positively moved to apply tension to both ends of the wire simultaneously. A deforming gripper P may be associated with the cutter 0 to deform a new length of wire in readiness for being placed in the first gripper.
