Stays. - A telescopic stay is provided with a coupling member 18 adapted to limit the extension of the stay, the coupling member being capable of a change of inclination to the line of extension of the telescopic members in order to provide for its engagement and release. As shown in Fig. 2, the extension of the telescopic stay-members 13, 14 is limited by the coupling member 18 that is pivotally mounted at 16 and has a slot 21 and an annular part 19 to engage a pin 21 and the circumference respectively of the part 14 of the stay. To release the stay in order that it may be freely expanded the parts 13, 14 are telescoped sufficiently for the pin 16 to engage an enlarged part of the slot 17; the member' 18 may then be lifted off the pin 16. Fig. 5 shows a modification in which a springy coupling member 23 carries a stud 25 to engage and be disengaged from a slot 26 in the outer member 27 of the telescopic stay. The coupling device is provided so that the window may only be opened fully from the inside of the apartment.
