Abstract

306,113. Schneider et Cie. Feb. 17, 1928, [Convention ,date]. Ordnance breech mechanism. - The breech is opened automatically during the run out of the gun by means of a lever C, Fig. 1, which is keyed at c to the breech-block B and during the run out abuts by means of a pin c' at its end on a bearing surface at the end of a channel-shaped arm E alongside the breech, as shown in the dotted positions I, II, III. The cartridge. is ejected during the latter part of the opening movement of the breech-block B and lever C, and before the completion of the run out. A spring J is simultaneously compressed by a plunger I connected by a link C<2> to a pivot c<2> on the lever C. After this operation, the pin c' of the lever C runs on the upper flange e<1> along the top of the arm E until the run out is completed. To close the breech, a handle K<3> is temporarily operated, and this by means of a finger K denects. the arm E about a vertical pivot E', whereby the flange e<1> releases the pin c' and the spring J returns, the lever C and the breechblock B to the closed position shown in the figure. During recoil, the pin c<1> rides against the web e of the arm E between the top and bottom flanges e<1>, e<2>. This web is obliquely disposed relatively to the axis of the gun, and the pin c<1> is spring mounted on the lever C and yields during the recoil until it snaps over the end of the arm E. This arm is normally urged outwards against a fixed stop by a spring buffer, which is compressed when the arm E is deflected inwards by means of the finger K and handle K<3>. The pivot E<1> of the arm E is carried by a plunger F cushioned by a spring F<1> which takes up the shock of the finger c<1> on the end of the arm E when the breech is opened during the run out of the gun.
