Abstract

306,018. Mensing, G. April 12, 1928. Davits. - Arrangements are made for braking luffing davits comprising a pair of arms 5 working about a cross-shaft 6 each arm being provided with a drum 9 around which a two-piece brake band 10 is disposed, these brake bands being simultaneously operated from a centrallyactuated hand-wheel through a shaft 15 which through worm-and-worm wheel gear operates the screwed shaft 12 engaging with the brake lugs 11. The davits which are offset relatively to the shaft 6 are initially pushed out, if necessary, by a screw 33 mounted in the bracket 7 and bearing against the davit. Should the ship have a list inboard, tumbler falls passing round jockey pulleys 23 are initially connected to the hooks 31 on the boat.
