Abstract

Rudders; tillers; steering-gear. - In rudder brakes mounted above the carrier or deck bush, the brake drum is free on the rudder stock but is limited in its movements by springs on the tiller. The brake drum a is freely mounted on the rudder b above the deck bush c and has two projections e supporting pinions p which abut on the tiller m. The brake band d is operated by a screw f and is supported at g by a plate h attached to the deck. In a modification, a carrier plate secured to the stock supports the drum instead of a deck bush.
