Abstract

Sheet-registering devices.- In an embossing- press more particularly for cutter-brush embossing, card alignment bars are pivoted to the platen 8 by means of rods or links 2 so that they may be swung away from the platen to allow of the removal of a card 9 being embossed. As shown in Fig. 1, a rod 3 having its ends bent downwardly and inwardly, and hingedly secured to the type or card alignment bar 1 by means of U-shaped straps 4, forms the links 2, the inturned ends engaging in holes 7 in the side of the platen. Separate links 2, Fig. 8, secured at each end of the bar 1 by screws 15, may be employed, with a pin 16 pressed inwardly by a spring 18 and operated by a knob 11, for pivoting each link to the platen. The pin 16 may be mounted on the link 2 by means of a leaf-spring or may be screwed thereinto. Also each link 2 may consist of a strip of resilient material attached to the bar 1 by a screw 15 and having its end inturned to engage in one of the holes 7 in the platen. A number of bars 1 may be operated simultaneously by connecting the corresponding links 2 by a bar 10, Fig. 10. The links 2 are pivoted to a slidable bed-plate 25 and controlled by springs 22 tending to hold the bars 1 in the raised position. As the plate 25 is moved on the platen 8 into position for the embossing operation, a wedge-shaped part 24 on the platen engages the lower extended ends 23 of the links 2 and depresses the bar 1 into position on the platen.
