Abstract

304,834. Whitaker, A., and Gramophone Co., Ltd. Oct. 28, 1927. Optical apparatus.-In recording sound photographically two or more images representing the sound are superposed on the sensitized surface in order to expose it sufficiently, and preferably one of the optical systems is selected to respond best to a different range of frequencies from the other or others so as to produce a record which will reproduce satisfactorily over all the frequencies. A Kerr or Faraday cell may be used in recording the higher frequencies, and a mechanical shutter, suitably damped to give a flat response characteristic, In recording the lower frequencies. The recording systems 2, 3, Fig. 1, are preferably arranged on opposite sides of the sensitized film 1 whose sensitized side is adjacent the recorder of the higher frequencies. The recorders may be connected with the same or separate microphones, and influence separate beams of light, or may influence beams from a single source reflected through the recorders.
