Abstract
288,711. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., and Hutt, J. Jan. 11, 1927, Gramophone pick - ups; transmitters in which a sound - controlled light-beam acts on a photo-electric element.- In reproducing sound from records a beam of light from a source 1, Fig. 1, is directed to an acute angle on to a photoelectric element 2 which is vibrated by a stylus 5 from the record 8, thereby varying the intensity of illumination of the element in accordance with the recorded sound. Current variations thus produced in the element, amplified if necessary, are employed to operate a sound emitting apparatus, and a potentiometer may be provided in the output circuit leading to an amplifier to regulate the volume. The variations of light intensity on the photo-electric element may be increased by arranging a grid 11, Fig. 2, composed of parallel plates, or a perforated screen, over the element 10. According to the Provisional Specification, the stylus may carry a mirror to reflect the light on to a photoelectric cell.
