Abstract

322,796. Neale, J. June 6, 1928. Transmitters in which a sound-controlled light beam acts on a photo-electric element. - The fourth Provisional Specification describes an apparatus which is stated to be of advantage in the reproduction of sound, and is similar to the sound-recording apparatus shown in Fig. 3 of the complete Specification. A beam of light is controlled by passing it through a fixed grid, and, after reflection from a vibratory mirror, passing it through another grid. The slots in the two grids are so arranged with respect to a central line that light is prevented from passing through at one side of this line when the maximum amount can pass through at the other side. The beam, controlled in this manner, falls upon selenium cells arranged in a Wheatstone bridge circuit as described in Specification 307,086. One of the grids may be formed upon the mirror as a series of parallel strips.
