Abstract

302,982. Smith, H. Sept. 24, 1927. Vibration-dampers in which brake shoes d, d' co-operate with inner and outer drums or members f, c, c<1> with a wedge like action as described in Specification 229,215, are provided with an inner brake member f capable of expansion to increase frictional resistance, such expansion being effected automatically by the relative movement of the arms a', b<1>. The shoes d, d' are pushed by a spring e between the adjustable outer members c, c<1> and the inner member f which is in two parts with an hexagonal or similar centre. The member f fits on an hexagonal or similar member h, which is fixed to and turns with the closing plate b having the operating arms b<1>. The outer casing a and the outer members c, c<1> turn with the arm a<1>. Relative rotation of the two arms thus results in expansion of the member f and an increase in the radial pressure on the shoes d, d'.
