Indiarubber, attaching to metal articles-A process for coating metal, particularly iron, surfaces with rubber consists in first etching the metal surface with a strong acid, washing and drying by means of hot air or steam so as to produce a film of oxide, and then applying, repeatedly if necessary, a solution of rubber in amyl acetate with or without carbon tetrachloride, to which swelling agents may be added, and finally pressing on a. sheet of rubber, which if not already vulcanized may be subsequently vulcanized in the cold, but preferably is prepared by adding a vulcanizer to the rubber mix and rolling out on a non-adhesive, surface.
