Abstract
302,617. Hargreaves, H. Sept. 14, 1927. Heating by electricity.-Relates to self-feeding boilers wherein a collecting chamber 7 fitted at the bottom with a draw-off tap 9, is filled with boiling water from an expansion pipe 6 the top of which is above the normal water level maintained by an external feed cistern 2 fitted with a ball-tap 1, and consists in a direct connection 3 between the cistern and the boiling chamber 5. A fitting 10 connects the top of the collecting chamber with the top of the cistern. The heating elements 23 are clamped to the sides' of a bell-shaped chamber 22 detachably secured in the bottom of the boiler and fitted with a cover plate 30 carrying terminal rods 27 coupled to the elements electrically by means of rings 24. The expansion pipe is mounted in a somewhat conical plate 13 dividing the boiler into a collecting and a boiling chamber. The draw-off tap screws into a tube 35, Fig. 4, secured to a boss 32 fixed to the boiler. shell 1. The tube is surrounded by a porcelain former 38 having a double helical thread containing a heating resistance connected in parallel or series with one or more of the elements 23.
