Abstract
302,385. India-Rubber, Gutta-Percha, & Telegraph Works Co., Ltd., and Avery, W. L. Sept. 15, 1927. Fluid-pressure; block and shoes acting on drums; disc.-An aircraft landing-wheel brake comprises brake members H thrust into engagement with a drum D<1> or disc by an annular inflatable member G, guiding means preventing circumferential but allowing radial movement of the brake members. The inflatable member is a rubber tube covered with fabric and is contained in a support channel F attached to the wheel axle. The brake members are vulcanized to the tube G and have lateral projections H<1> engaging guide slats in the flanges of the channel F. The guide slats may be inclined as shown in Fig. 7 in order to augment the pressure of the brake members. Each end of the slats may be inclined to augment the brake pressure in both directions. The brake blocks are formed by moulding the friction material round a metal plate having a central hole. The corners of the metal plate are bent over the guiding projections to protect them. The brake blocks may be arranged within a support member and act inwardly on the outer periphery of a brake drum. The brake blocks may be secured by spring return means to the support. The friction material may be secured to the drum. In a disc brake the inflatable member is arranged between a support and a disc which is adapted to be thrust into engagement with another disc. Specification 299,950, [Class 80 (ii), Gearing Variable-speed &c.], is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 18686/96, 21855A/96, [both in Class 136, Velocipedes], and 273,851.
