Abstract

In a spot-type disc brake in which the caliper 6 straddles the disc and the free ends of the arms 8, 9 of the caliper extend towards the rim 1 of the wheel 2, the brake disc is formed as an annular cast member 5 having at its outer periphery a lateral support 17 cast in one piece with the disc or anchored to it during casting, the lateral support 17 being fixed to the hub 3 of the wheel either directly or by means of an intermediate support 19. Openings 22 are made in the lateral support 17 and in the intermediate support 19 to lighten them and to ventilate the disc. In an alternative embodiment disclosed in the Specification (e.g. Fig. 3, not shown) the lateral support 17 which is made of sheet-metal is fixed to the disc by being embedded therein when the latter is cast and is fixed directly to the wheel hub 3.
