Abstract

302,305. Siemens & Halske Akt.- Ges. Dec. 14, 1927, [Convention date]. Furnace details.-In a furnace having a tapping electrode 2 supplied with current from a bus-bar 12 the current collector for the electrode makes resilient contact with the bus-bar 12 and the contact pressure is adjustable by gearing. The bar 12 is bolted to iron rails 13 and is carried by insulators 11 mounted on a joist 10 carrying runners 9 on which a frame 30 is mounted for movement parallel to the bus-bar. The current collector comprises a hood 15 separated from a cylinder 17 by a spring 16 and connected by a cable 29 to the electrode. The cylinder 17 is mounted on a member 21 capable of vertical movement in a sleeve 22 carried by the frame 30, and having a screwed end 23 engaging a screwed socket formed in a bevel wheel 26 gearing with a wheel 27 on a shaft fitted with a handwheel 28. The electrode is mounted for vertical or pivotal movement on a frame 4 having rollers engaging a joist 6 carried by the frame 30. One electrode may co-operate with a number of furnaces.
