Abstract

926,637. Fused-electrolyte apparatus. MONTECATINI SOC. GENERALE PER L'INDUSTRIA MINERARIA E CHIMICA. April 19, 1960 [April 24, 1959], No. 13663/60. Addition to 716,874. Class 41. The method of producing aluminium by a fused-electrolyte process as claimed in the parent Specification is modified by varying the point of introduction (vertically and/or horizontally) of alumina to the bath during electrolysis. A screw-type feeder 1 with its hopper 5 and electric motor 3 is mounted on a carriage 2 running freely on a pair of rails 9, the ends of which are vertically adjustable by means of worms 10 working in nuts 11 rotatable by handles 12. In a modification, Fig. 4, the rails 9 are also made laterally movable by supporting the worms 10<SP>1</SP> in journals 10a<SP>1</SP> having wheels 16 running on rails 18. In this embodiment, the worms 10<SP>1</SP> are rotated directly by handles 121 to cause nuts 11<SP>1</SP> to move vertically on the worms 10<SP>1</SP>, the rails 9 being connected to the nuts 11<SP>1</SP>.
