Abstract
301,865. Vulitch, V. A. de. Dec. 7, 1927, [Convention date]. Addition to 298,992. Flexible couplings. - The improvements consist mainly in the provision of flared sockets or sleeves to receive the piano-wire cables connecting the shaft flanges. The cables 7, Fig. 1, may be soldered or welded to one sleeve 13 and freely engage the other sleeve 14, the sleeves being either forced into the flanges 3, 4 and secured by pins, or screwed into them. Each cable may alternatively be fitted into a sleeve 13 after the constituent wires have been welded or soldered together at that end, or may be secured therein by a ferrule welded or soldered on the cable. The limbs 7, 7<a>, Fig. 3, of U-shaped cables may engage channels in blocks 15, 16 and the central parts 7<b> engage grooves 15<a> in the blocks 15, the blocks 15, 16 being secured in blind recesses 17, 18 by screws 19 in open-ended recesses or by enclosing sockets, Fig. 5 (not shown), which are insertable from outside without dismantling the coupling. Fig. 6 shows a form in which sleeves or plugs 13, 14 are screwed into the flanges 3, 4. The plugs may, however, be plain and be retained by heads 13b, 14<b> and clamping-rings 21. In another modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), the flanges 3, 4 are closely adjacent and the screwed plugs 13, 14 extend away from one another, a divided sheet-metal casing being carried by the shaft flanges. The shaft 1, Fig. 8, may carry a divided cup 3, 3a, the cable ends resting in plugs 13, 14 secured therein, while the flange 4 of shaft 2 carries sleeves 23 slidable midway on the cables 7. As in the parent Specification, the cables may be hollow. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a form in which single steel wires 7, Fig. 9 (Cancelled), similarly engage flared apertures 24 - - 26 in plates 3, 3a, 4 detachably secured to the shaft members 30, 31, as shown, and states also that the wires or cables may be arranged in more than one circular row. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
