Abstract
301,682. McNeill, R. March 6, 1928. Sizes.-A jelly or mass consisting of starch, glue, silicate of soda, and water, with or without precipitants, preservatives or formalin, is mixed with pulp in the beater before the addition of size and of alum for fixing. The production of fluff in the manufacture of " antiques " for light weight books in thus prevented. Suitable proportions are .120 lbs. starch, 30 1bs. glue, 10 gallons silicate of soda of 100‹ Tw., and up to 200 gallons water, the ingredients being heated but not boiled during mixing.
