Abstract
300,400. Cutler, R. F. Nov. 24, 1927. Reservoir pens for solid ink.-In a reservoir pen of the type having a barrel divided into two compartments separated by a valve and adapted to contain, respectively, water and concentrated ink solution or the like, a separately-constructed valve disc or seat is mounted against a shoulder in the barrel and co-operates with a valve member associated with a map movable on the end of the barrel. In the form shown in Fig. 2, an apertured disc 21 is seated on an annular shoulder 13 in the barrel 10 and serves to separate the water compartment 14 from the ink compartment 17 in a cap member 16 screwing into the rear end of the barrel and provided with an aperture 19 at the lower end. In use, the compartment 14 is filled with water, the member 16 withdrawn slightly, and the pen shaken to mix the contents of the two compartments. When the member 16 is screwed home, communication between the two compartments is interrupted. In order to prevent leakage round the nib-section, the water compartment may be constituted by a flexible member 25, Fig. 4, secured at its inner end to an apertured member 23 screwed into the shoulder 13. To fill the member 25, the member 16 is withdrawn from the barrel, and in order to prevent leakage of ink therefrom, the lower end is provided' with a housing 26 having an aperture communicating with the interior of the ink compartment and enclosing a reciprocable valve member 27 normally closing the aperture 19, In a further modification, the solid ink compartment is closed by a member 33, Fig. 11, formed. with a valve seat engaged by a valve 35 on the end of a rod 36 passing through the end of the compartment and under the control of a spring 38 and a cap 16 screwing on the end of the barrel.
