Abstract
175,382. Badois, L. Nov. 11, 1920. Reservoir pens; penwipers. -A reservoir pen of the type in which communication from the reservoir to the nib is controlled by a screw-threaded movable member has all the passages through which the ink flows capillary, and comprises a member 11, Fig. 2, having screw - threaded engagement at one end with the open end of the reservoir 8 and carrving at the other end a feedbar 14 and nib 13, and a hollow spindle 5 fixed at one end to the reservoir and having the other end closed and provided with a conical seat 7 co-operating with a corresponding seat 23 on the feed-bar 14; an annular capillary space is formed between the outside wall of the spindle 5 and the inside wall of the member 11, extends for practically the whole length of the spindle 5, and is in communication with the reservoir preferably by means of a longitudinal slot 6 in the spindle 5 and with the ink-passage 21 in the feed-bar 14 by means of the space between the valve faces 7, 23, which may be separated or closed together by motion of the member 11. The cap 24 is provided with a device in contact with the nib 13 for automatically ensuring the starting of the flow of ink on removal of the cap, this device preferably comprising a tube 27 of elastic material closely surrounding the nib and containing a spongy supple mass 28 in contact with the nib so as to retain the ink remaining on the nib after use and to give it back to the nib when the pen is opened. The feed-bar 14, Figs. 2 and 5, may be provided with a recess 22, rounded at the bottom, connecting with the capillary ink passage 21, and extending along the whole or part only of the length of the feed-bar 14, the side edges of the recess 22 contacting with the concave side of the nib 13. The reservoir and cap of the pen may have cylindrical surfaces 1, 24 and conical surfaces 2, 25 so that the pen is of symmetrical appearance whether open or closed. Leakagebetween the member 11 and the reservoir 8 may be prevented by circular grooves 18, with or without packing, in the outer surface of the member 11.
