FOUNTAIN-PEN.
Original application filed June 29, 1912, Serial No. 706,784.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, CHARLES MARIE VICTOR ALLENOU, a citizen of the French Republic, and resident of Nantes, Loire- Infrieure, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fountain- Pens, of which the following is a specification.
The application Serial No. 706,784 filed June 29/19'12, relates to fountain pens to be fed with water only, in which the water contained in the pen holder may be brought in communication with the coloring substance contained in a reservoir to dissolve a suitable amount of such substance, said communication being established or intercepted at will.
The present invention, which is divided out from the above application, relates to further constructive forms of such pens.
The invention is shown in the Figures 1 1 of the accompanying drawings showing partial axial sections of four constructive forms of such fountain pens.
Fig. 1 shows a fountain pen in which the tubular reservoir 8 containing the coloring substance is secured onto a cap 9 and provided with longitudinal slots, the bottom 10 being solid. The ink is prepared, regulated and introduced by rotating the cap 9 which is provided with a gasket 12. 'When the cap 9 is wholly screwed onto the outer tube, the bottom 10 of the coloring substance reservoir 8 rests upon a flange 13 which is integral with the outer tube and forms a valve seat so that the flowing of water from the water reservoir to the coloring substance reservoir 8 is cut oil. When the cap 9 is unscrewed to a small extent, (the fountain pen being turned upside down) the water enters the space 11 and dissolves the coloring substance.
Fig. 2 is a different form of the fountain pen in which, (in the same manner as shown in Fig. 1), the receptacle 14 containing the coloring substance, when applied onto a seat 15, stops the communication between both reservoirs. The coloring substance reservoir 14 shows only laterally disposed openings. Said reservoir is independent of the cap 17, and is continuously pressed downward by means of a spring 18 placed between both said parts 14 and 17. Connection between reservoir 14 and the water is produced by screwing the removable penholder 20, so that a rod 19 presses on the curved bottom 16 of Specification of Letters Patent.

the coloring substance receptacle 14 and raises said receptacle. The water supply and the preparing of ink are performed as in the above described forms.
According to Fig. 3 which is a third form, the coloring substance reservoir 21 is tubular and provided with various longitudinal slots 22 whereby a coloring substance in the form of a cartridge may be held within the tubular member and at the same time permitting access of the water to the coloring substance through the slots 22. The receptacle 21 is connected to a rod 25 by means of an enlarged, reinforced portion 23 provided with a gasket ring 21. For stopping the further solution of the coloring substance said jointing is pressed against the fiange 2 1 of the reservoir while the penholder is screwed on said last tube which is not provided with a threaded cap as above.
In the form according to Fig. 4, the tubular reservoir 30 of the coloring substance is also secured at one end of a rod 31 which is fixed onto the threaded penholder 32 or bears against the latter as shown in the drawing. The reservoir 30 is open on top only and may be pressed against the cap 3% by screwing the penholder 32, a rubber cushion 35 being provided for tightly closing said reservoir 30. The rod 31 is preferably provided with a helical portion 36 which enables a suitable longitudinal yielding of said rod. The working of the pen according to Fig. 1 is like that of the former ones.
Having now fully described my said invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A fountain pen-holder to be fed with water only and having a water containing compartment and a coloring substance containing compartment, the latter compartment being located and movable within the former one and means for actuating said latter compartment from the exterior so as to secure or cut off at will and for any desired length of time communication between water and color compartments.
2. A fountain pen-holder to be fed with water only comprising a tubular body forming a water reservoir, a threaded removable cap at one end of said body, a partition on said body, a coloring substance receptacle resting on said partition, a spiral spring be tween said cap and said receptacle for applying the latter on said partition, an aperture in said partition, normally closed by the bottom of said receptacle and a rod secured on the movable pen-holder and projecting through said aperture for raising said receptacle for allowing the water entering said receptacle.
3. A fountain pen holder ,tomprising a reservoir provided with two intercommunieating chambers, a solid pigment containing movable capsule in one of the chambers, said capsule having a closed end which is located adjacent the point of juncture of the chambers to close the opening between the said chambers.
4. A fountain pen holder comprising a hollow reservoir, an annular flange within the reservoir defining two intercommunicating chambers, a solid pigment containing movable capsule disposed in one of the chambers and which rests against the flange to close communication between the chambers.
5. A fountain pen holder comprising a reservoir, provided with anannular flange which defines two intercommunicating chambers, a movable capsule disposed in one of the chambers and adapted to contain a solid pigment, means for pressing the end of the capsule against the flange, whereby communication between the two chambers is disestablished,
6. A fountain pen holder including a reservoir provided with an annular flange which defines two interoommunicating chambers, a perforated capsule disposed in one of the chambers and which is normally adapted to rest against the flange so as to disestablish communication between the two chambers, and means for lifting the capsule from the flange so as to establish communication between the chambers.
7. A fountain pen holder including a reservoir provided with an annular flange, a perforated capsule in one of the chambers adapted to normally resilient means for holding the capsule against the flange, and means for dislodging the capsule, whereby communication between the two chambers may be established.
8. A fountain pen holder including a reservoir and a rotatable nib holder, an annular flange within the reservoir defining two intercommunicating compartments, a capsule within one of the compartments and which is adapted to rest against the flange, resilient means for holding the capsule against the flange, and a rod fixed to the nib holder, said rod being adapted to engage the capsule to dislodge it from its seat upon the flange.
