Abstract

300,356. White, H. r., and Beadle, Ltd., J. C. Sept. 26, 1927. Hoods, - In hoods for road vehicles of the kind in which the hoop sticks are traversed mechanically by extensible members the members consist of Bowden cables. As shown the hoop sticks 6 are erected and stowed away by means of Bowden cables 25, 25a, 26, 26a and a winch 13 mounted under the cowl. The winch comprises two drums geared together and driven by a crank handle 22. The cables, passing through shea,things as shown, are connected to the front hoop sticks. The hoop sticks 6 slide in slotted guide ways 5 by means of double ball feet 10 through which the cables pass. The hoop sticks are interconnected by flexible members 12 and the guide ways 5 are bent down at the rear into a compartment 7. In order to prevent jamming the hoop sticks are caused to traverse the bent portion of the runway 5 en bloc by means of members 37 pivoted on the front locking means 35 and adapted to engage the rear locking means. A cam member 41 by means of its finger 42 engaging a stop 43 releases the member when the hoop sticks reach the horizontal part of the guide way. Alternatively the members 12 may be dispensed with and the hoop sticks connected by metal &c. webbing which is also connected intermediately with a ball member sliding in the guide way.
