Abstract

300,114. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Nov. 5, 1927, [Convention, date]. Addition to 282,805. Thioindigo dyes,-A, derivative of 3-hydroxy-1- thionaphthalene substituted in the nucleus is condensed with 7-methylisatin-a-chloride substituted by halogen or methyl in the 5-position or by halogen or methyl or halogen and methyl in the 4-and 5-positions. According to examples the following pairs of components are condensed : 5-chlor-7-methyl-or 4-methyl-6-chlor-3-hydroxy-1- thionaphthene and 4: 7 -dimethyl-5-chlorisatina-chloride: 5 : 6 : :7-trichlor-3-hydroxy-1-thionaphthene; and 4 : 7-dimethyl-5-chlorisatin-a-chloride 4-methyl - 5 : 7-dichlor-3-hydroxy-1-thionaphthene and 5-chlor-7-methyl-or 5: 7-dimethylisatin-achloride; 4 : 7-dimethyl-5-chlor-3-hydroxy-i-thionaphtheno and 5-chlor-7 -methylisatin-a-chloride. Specification 283,118 is referred to. Isatin, derivatives.-4-Chlor-2-toluidine, 5-chlor- 2-toluidine and p-xylidine are converted into the a-toluidides and a-xylidide of the corresponding isatins by the process of German Specification 277,396, by forming the hydrocyanocarbodiarylimides and effecting ring closure. The achlortoluidides and the a-xylidide may be saponified to give 4-chlor- and 5-chlor-7-methylisatin and 4 : 7-dimethylisatin respectively. The latter may be chlorinated in acetic acid solution to give 4 : 7-dimethvl-5-chlorisatin.
