Addition to 282,805. 2-Thionaphthene-2-indole-indigo dyes are obtained by condensing a nuclear substituted 3- oxythionaphthene with a 5: 7-dimethylisatin- 2<1> : 4<1>-dimethylamide, or a derivative thereof having two halogen atoms or two methyl groups in the 4- and 51-positions, or with a 5-halogen-7- methylisatin-2<1>-methyl-4<1>-halogenanilide containing two halogen atoms or two methyl groups in the 4- and 5'-positions. According to examples, dyestuffs are obtained from the following components : - 5-chlor-4: 7-dimethylisatin-4<1>-chlor- 2<1> : 5<1>-dimethylanilide and 4-methyl-6-chlor- or 5- chlor-7-methyl- or 4-methyl-5: 7-dichloroxythionaphthene; 5: 7-dimethylisatin-2<1> : 4<1>-dimethylanilide, or 4: 5: 7-trimethylisatin-2<1>: 4<1> : 5<1>-trimethylanilide, or 4 5-dichlor-7-methylisatin- 4<1> : 5<1>-dichlor-2<1>-methylanilide, and 4: 7-dimethyl-5-chloroxythionaphthene. The products dye cotton in violet shades from the vat. Isatinarylides. - The above-mentioned isatinarylides are obtainable by the Sandmeyer process, by way of the thiourea from the corresponding amines, for example from unsymmetrical mxylidine, pseudo-cumidine, 4:5-dichor-2-toluidine, 4-methyl-5-chlor-2-toluidine, or 4-chlor-5- methyl-2-toluidine.
