Synthetic caoutchouc; sulphur derivatives.- An elastic caoutchouc-like body is obtained by the treatment of an aldehyde, preferably formaldehyde, with alkali or alkaline earth polysulphide in solution. A similar material is obtained by treating with polysulphide a mixture of an aldehyde and a halogen derivative of a saturated hydrocarbon such as ethylene or methylene dichloride or dibromide.
