298,689. Anglo Pencil Co., Ltd., and Smith, M. July 18, 1927. Transferring designs.-Lettering, designs, and the like are produced on the surfaces of pencils, penholders, and like articles by means of transfers, and adhesion is secured by two separate applications of gelatine or gelatine solution or a substance having similar properties. The pencil or the like is first treated to produce the desired colour. The duplex paper backing is first removed from the transfer by soaking, and the printed face is coated with a warm solution of gelatine or the like. The transfer is then applied to the pencil, the paper support is removed, and the pencil is dipped in gelatine or like solution and finally varnished. According to the Provisional Specification, the pencil or the like is first coated with a varnish and then with gelatine; alternatively, the gelatine coating is applied after the transfer has been affixed.
