298,455. Pierpont, F. H., and Lanston Monotype Corporation, Ltd. April 28, 1928. Type-casting machines; matrices. - Matrices, particularly for casting rules, slugs, and border material, have the formative cavity A<2>, Fig. 1, placed diagonally of the matrix body A, so that a cavity of greater length can be accommodated. The matrix may be mounted in a recessed seat in a holder B, Fig. 3, in which it is held by a rotatable catch B<4>. The holder may fit into a frame, secured to the upper surface of the mould of a casting-machine, and provided with slots to receive extensions B<6> on the holder.
