Abstract

297,809. Coquille, E. H. Sept. 29, 1927, [Convention date]. Vehicle lamps.-A lamp is mounted on the rear panel of a motor or other vehicle tool or other box so as to provide a rear light and to illuminate the interior of the box, and also, if desired, a number plate. In the form shown in the Figure, an electric lamp bulb 5 is mounted in a lantern 1 formed by pressing out a portion of a rear panel 2. The back of the lantern is glazed with red glass 8 and the front 9 is left open so as to provide access to the bulb 5 and to illuminate the interior of the box when the cover 3 is raised about a horizontal axis 4. The lantern 1 has a lateral aperture 6 for illuminating a number plate, and the rear panel 2 may be reinforced by a vertical plate 10 adapted to protect the bulb 5 from damage by the tools. Alternatively, the lamp may be formed separately from the box, and it may be mounted on a stationary rear panel, on a rear panel pivoted about a vertical hinge, or in the cover of the box.
