Abstract

490,921. Road signs. HALL, H. C. Dec. 3, 1937, No. 29868/36. [Class 3 (ii)] [Also in Groups X and XI] A road kerb comprises, in combination, a closed hollow box having a displaceable cover 3, means for securing the cover in the closed position, a primary light source 10 and reflector 11 within the box, and one or more openings or windows in the cover. The kerb shown is divided into front and rear compartments 13, 14, by a wall 12. The rear compartment is adapted to accommodate electric wires, batteries, switches and the like and the front compartment contains the illuminating devices. The cover 3 is secured in position by screws 4 and the opening therein is fitted with a window 8. The front wall 2 also is provided with an opening or a number of openings 7 having glass or other translucent panels 8 which are protected by wire mesh 17. The reflector is of glass or bright metal, polished or stoved with enamel, and is suitably curved and slotted at 11a so as to direct the light through the openings in the kerb. The openings in the kerb may be in the form of letters or signs.
