Parachutes.-To prevent undue stresses upon the fabric of a parachute at the moment of launching, the central aperture has a circumferential elastic cord or ribbon to enable the aperture and the adjacent fabric to extend and shrink under variations of pressure, the expansion of the whole parachute under excess pressure being provided for by radial elastic gores in the fabric, or the circumferential seams of the fabric may be individually provided with elastics. Auxiliary apertures g may be arranged along the lines of these elastics so as to be fully open when the elastic is stretched and practically closed when the elastic is contracted.
