Abstract
297,207. Headley, F. H. Sept. 3, 1927. Seat attachments. - A pillion seat for motorcycles &c. comprises a seat part proper formed of a sheet-metal base plate a, shown in inverted plan, suitably covered or upholstered, and provided with a number of elongated apertures a<2>, a<3> arranged so as to leave a boundary strip of metal a<4> and intermediate elongated strips adapted to form a flexible structure, the plate being supported by compression springs f from an underframe adapted to be attached to a carrier &c. The apertures a<2>, a<3> are preferably tapered as shown, and arranged so that the intervening strips taper from the centre towards the ends of the plate, to afford the required flexibility. The front part of the plate is tapered as shown. A number of plates having corresponding apertures may be superposed. The underframe comprises two longitudinal channel members c connected by transverse strips c<1> and provided with slots c', in which are adjustably mounted clips d adapted to be clamped on the carrier &c. by means of screw pins &c. d<1>, which also clamp the clips to the members c.
