Abstract
296,941. Clark, D. W. Jan. 16, 1928. Machines for making. -Art adjustable device for preforming the component wires or strands into helices is secured to the twisting head. The preforming device comprises a number of grooved d rollers 64 mounted upon collars 42, 44, 45, 47, 48, the intermediate collars 47, 48 of which are adjustable angularly with respect to the remaining collars, while the outer collars 44, 45 are adjustable axially with respect to the central collar 42 and to the collars 47, 48. To maintain equal distance between the collars the portions of the threaded adjusting spindle 55 which engage the outer collars 44, 45 are of double the pitch of the portions which engage nuts 51 carried by the intermediate collars 47, 48. Angular adjustment of the collars 47, 48 is obtained by means of pinions 52 carried by spindle 53 mounted in the outer collars, the pinions engaging tothed portions 50 of slots 49 provided in the collars 47, 48. The central and two outer collars are keyed to an extension 40 of the twisting head, while the intermediate collars are free to rotate thereabout, being driven by the spindles 53 which are provided with lock nuts 54.
