Abstract

F l o o r s; muffle furnaces.-The floor of a muffle furnace for vitreous enamelling or for annealing &c. comprises hollow ribs each consisting of a single row of open-ended inverted V or U section tiles 4, Fig. 4, placed end to end. The tiles are spigot and socket jointed and are supported in undercut grooves of bearer bars 9. Fig. 1 shows the invention embodied in a furnace supplied with gas at 11 and heated air at 12 and having walls and roof built of bricks as described in Specification 232,480. The bearer bars 9 are here supported by transverse walls at intervals. In a modification, Fig. 3, there is a separate combustion chamber below each rib and the bars are supported on the dividing walls 19.
