Abrading medium, article moved in, through, or similarly in contact with.-In a machine for graining printing-plates, the machine base or main frame 12 carries a sliding guide frame 22 which is movable thereon in one direction by means of longitudinal guides 23, 24, while a tub 7 carrying the printing plates and graining marbles is hinged at 8 to a sub-frame 9 which is independently supported on the base by balls 13 running in cups 14 and is given a circulating movement by means of a single eccentric 16 mounted on the base. The sub-frame is restrained and guided at 28 so as to move in a direction transverse to the movement of the guide frame. At one end of the tub a trough with. diamond shaped perforation 37 and a catch basin 38 beneath may be arranged. The eccentric shaft may be driven by spiral gearing 33 from a shaft 34 and counterweights 31, 32 are provided.
