Abstract

284,271. Rembaux, L. Jan. 26, 1927, [Convention date]. Flat extended surfaces, surfacing and polishing.-A machine for grinding or polishing plates of glass, marble, &c. consists of a frame 1 carrying a movable table 11 having mounted thereon a carrier 12 for the glass &c. Supported above the table on columns 2 is a frame 3 carrying a series of grinding &c. units 4, each of which consists of a cylinder 17 having rotatably mounted therein a hollow shaft 13 carrying a plate 15 having an eccentric sleeve 18 in which is slidably mounted a shaft 20. The shaft carries the grinding &c. disc 23 and a pinion 21 engaging an internally toothed wheel 22; an intermediate pinion also may be employed between the pinion 21 and the wheel 22. The shaft 20 is lifted or lowered by an arm 27 connected to a piston 28 movable in a cylinder 29 by compressed air supplied through a pipe 31, and vertical movements of the shaft are cushioned by a dashpot 30. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a reciprocating table 11, which may make two strokes, one a working stroke, and the other to enable the carrier 12 to be removed. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
