Abstract

294,596. Dahl, O., and Kjorstad, E. A. H., July 27, 1927, [Convention date]. Freezing fish; cooling brine.-In freezing-apparatus for use on trawlers &c., the fish disposed in perforate containers 4 supported upon gratings 5 in a refrigerator 1 are frozen by brine circulated through the refrigerator and a brinecooler by a pump 10, the refrigerator being kept full of brine which has little or no contact with the outer air and having a vent pipe 20 in which a liquid head is maintained so that the refrigerator is under pressure greater than atmospheric. The refrigerator may be arranged in circuit with a chamber 35, Fig. 3, having compartments a, b for salt and brine respectively and a cooling- chamber 30 which is packed with ice. The refrigerator and the chambers each communicate through valved pipes with a brine tank 41 that may be supplied with sea-water by a pump 42. The pressures in the refrigerator and the chambers may be regulated independently of one another.
